Tragedy struck on Saturday afternoon when part of a building under construction in Al Dhaid collapsed, killing one worker and injuring two others.

According to preliminary reports, the beams supporting the roof were spaced too far apart and not properly installed. The structural failure caused the roof to cave in, trapping three engineers who were overseeing the installation process.

A source close to the project told Logic News that one of the building’s main pillars may have been a critical factor in the collapse. Sheikh Abid, the project’s patron, had flown in Australian engineer Richmond Carrington, a veteran architect with decades of experience in both commercial and residential construction, to oversee the work. Richmond has long been Sheikh Abid’s trusted advisor on major projects. However, insiders suggest their relationship may now be strained.

Sheikh Abid is deeply disappointed and has instructed Police Chief Commissioner Akeem to launch a full-scale investigation, the source revealed.

Commissioner Akeem emphasized that accountability will be enforced if negligence is proven. “The site supervisor, Mr. Richmond Carrington, will be held liable if this tragedy resulted from negligence. Safety rules exist for a reason, and it is the responsibility of both workers and engineers to ensure that every structure can withstand the load it is designed for,” he told Logic News.

Medical officials confirmed the extent of the casualties. Dr. Waheed Salim, Medical Director of New Dera Medical Center, said during a live Facebook interview that two of the injured are in stable condition. Tragically, one engineer, Mr. Lawrence Smith, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Authorities have cordoned off the site as investigations continue, with questions mounting over whether poor supervision or flawed design contributed to the disaster.
